COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Golden Bears were out on the prowl Friday night away at Olentangy Patriot Stadium. With vicious quickness, they captured their prey in the form of a 17-point win. 

Upper Arlington rolled past Olentangy Liberty 41-24 on the road Friday night behind two touchdowns by star running back Carson Gresock.

The Golden Bears (7-0) stay undefeated and first in the OCC-Central while the Patriots (4-3) suffered their second worst loss of the year. 

Upper Arlington coach Justin Buttermore said the offense revolves around Gresock (5’ 10”, 205 lbs.).

"He's our heart and soul in a lot of ways, I mean everything goes with him,” Buttermore said. “He’s a guy each and every week that we know is going to get a lot of carries and is going to be the backbone of the offense.”

Upper Arlington struck first during the opening quarter with both a field goal and a 16-yard rushing touchdown by Gresock. 

Olentangy Liberty struggled on offense in the first half only scoring a field goal. 

Upper Arlington then scored on a 35-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Simon Monnin to receiver Sam Cannon as he ran past the Patriots’ defense on his way to the end zone. 

Monnin would throw two more passing touchdowns in the half’s final two minutes after the Golden Bears recovered the kickoff following the first score during those minutes. He finished the night with three touchdowns and 118 passing yards. 

Buttermore said that he was impressed with Monnin and especially his ability to look down the field under pressure.

“He made a lot of good plays,” Buttermore said. “He was poised when he got pressured he kept his eyes downfield.

The second half began with a quick 22-yard passing touchdown from Patriots quarterback J.J. Sebert to receiver Collin Mulder in the back of the end zone.

The Patriots continued their attempt to come back in the fourth with a 10-yard passing touchdown to receiver Dean Stack.

Yet the comeback was shot down as Gresock blazed by for 22 yards on his way to his second touchdown.  He would end the night with 171 rushing yards.

After a touchdown in the final minute by Sebert, Upper Arlington kneeled the ball down to secure their victory.

Next up, the Golden Bears will hope to stay undefeated next week at home against Olentangy Orange  

Olentangy Liberty will look to bounce back with a win next week at Hilliard Bradley.

Buttermore said this undefeated start feels worlds better than last year’s 3-5 record.

“It certainly feels a lot better than the record last year,” Buttermore said. “I’m just proud of the kids after they played really hard each and every week.”
