COLUMBUS, Ohio -- As a hazy mist cascaded over Dublin Jerome High School Stadium, the playoffs kicked off with both teams eager to show that they have what it takes to be the best team in central Ohio.

Dublin Jerome defeated Olentangy Liberty Friday night Dublin Jerome High School Stadium 21-7 to kick off the postseason.  The Celtics were led by two touchdowns on 169 rushing yards by senior running back Preston Everhart.

The Celtics advance to the second round while the Patriots end their season on a first-round loss.

Dublin Jerome coach Brett Glass said that Everhart (5'11", 170 lbs.) is incredibly talented in his skills on the field.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete, really special,” Glass said.  “Just the way he can move and run.”

After breaking a few tackles, Everhart coasts to the endzone for a 39-yard touchdown during the third quarter.

The Celtics got off to a quick start with a 20-yard touchdown pass to receiver Grant Sargel.

Neither team would score in a first half that was inhibited by the ongoing mist and cold that persisted throughout the game.

Everhart said that though the weather was a factor, it is beyond their control, but him and his team performed well nonetheless.

“We got to control the things that we can control,” Everhart said. “We can't control the weather. So we came out and did it.”

The second half was where Everhart would catch fire as he would have one touchdown in each of the last two quarters.

The Patriots would attempt a comeback with a passing touchdown to junior receiver Alex Okuley.

Dublin Jerome moves on to play No. 2 seed Springfield, who has only lost one game this season, on the road next Friday night.

Glass said that though Springfield is a competitive team, they are able to be defeated.

“They’re obviously a really really good football team,” Glass said.  “But they've been beaten.”
