COLUMBUS, Ohio -- As successful as they had been in the postseason this year, central Ohio felt the full wrath of other areas in the state in the Final Four.

Only one of the six central Ohio teams survived in last weekend's State Semifinals to advance to the State Championship on Dec. 4.

That team, Newark Catholic, will represent all of central Ohio in Canton as it will be playing for the Division VII title.

The six teams came in with high hopes on Friday and Saturday.  Some looked to stay undefeated while others wished to continue some improbable winning streaks.

Alas, in the end, for all but the Green Wave, the path to football greatness would end in the Final Four.

Here are the results from every central Ohio State Semifinals game.

Division I: Friday at 7 p.m.

Upper Arlington (10) vs. Lakewood St. Edward (16) at Mansfield Arlin Field

Upper Arlington will not finish its perfect season off with a championship.

St. Edward (14-1) defeated the Bears (14-1) lost to  (14-1) 16-10 to clinch its spot in the Division I State Championship.

Upper Arlington had its lowest score all year in a game where it would only have 131 yards of total offense.

After the Eagles scored the game's first touchdown, the Bears responded with a 93 kick-return touchdown by Sam Cannon. They would then gain the lead in the second with a field goal.

St. Edward would then regain the lead with a score in the third and clinch the win forcing a safety in the game's final minute.

Upper Arlington ended its season Friday night but will be proud to have improved mightily from its 3-5 record in 2020.

Division III: Friday at 7 p.m.

Hamilton Badin (14) vs. Granville (0) at London Bowlus Field

Much like Upper Arlington, Granville's dream of a perfect season through the State Championship was cut short on Friday.

Badin (15-0) defeated Granville (14-1) 14-0 Friday behind two touchdowns on 226 yards rushing from running back Jack Walsh.

The Blue Aces, who came off a 57-point showing in the Regional Finals, were shut out for the first time all season.

The only points scored in this game came in the second quarter with two touchdowns from Walsh.

Granville had just two rushing yards in its first and only loss on the year.

The Blue Aces now move into the offseason with confidence from an undefeated regular season and a hope for a possible State Championship trip next season.

Division IV: Friday at 7 p.m.

Bloom-Carroll (21) vs. Clarksville Clinton-Massie (21) at Performance Stadium at Volunteer Field (Plain City)

Bloom-Carroll had not allowed more than six points in its last six games coming into Friday.  However, it would allow quite a few more scores in its first loss of the season.

Clinton-Massie (13-1) skated past the Bulldogs (14-1) 24-21 Friday ending Bloom-Carroll's season and winning a spot in the Division IV State Championship.

The score was close for the entire game despite the Bulldogs having just 129 yards of total offense.

Running back Carter Frank led the Falcons with two touchdowns in the second quarter to give his team a 14-7 lead.

Bloom-Carroll would battle back in the second half but could not beat Clinton-Massie as the Falcons held on to a 3-point lead going to win the game.

The Bulldogs come off another season winning a conference title and making it far into the playoffs, but they were unable to make it over the hump of the State Semifinals.

Bloom-Carroll will look to improve in the offseason while retaining the effective strategies that led it to a successful season in 2021.

Division V: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Harvest Prep (22) vs. Versailles (28) at London Bowlus Field

Harvest Prep's Cinderella run is over.

Versailles (14-1) defeated the Warriors (10-3) 28-22 earning a spot in the Division V State Championship.

The Tigers started the scoring with a touchdown in each of the first two quarters.

Harvest Prep responded with two scores in the second.

Versailles exploded gaining a two-possession lead in the third quarter.  It would hold the lead by the end of the fourth despite a touchdown and 2-point conversion for the Warriors.

Harvest Prep will head into the offseason with the confidence of a conference and regional title in its hands and the hope of an even better season next year.

Division VI: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Coldwater (38) vs. West Jefferson (13) at Alexander Stadium (Piqua)

West Jefferson, much like its rival Mechanicsburg, could not contain Coldwater

The Cavaliers (14-2) defeated the Roughriders (13-2) 35-13 continuing its streak of winning by three possessions or more to six games.

West Jefferson scored just 13 points on Saturday which is the same amount it scored in its Week 10 loss to rival Mechanicsburg.

The Roughriders' quarterback Tyler Buescher threw two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown in the first quarter.

The Cavaliers never looked back from there gaining a 21-6 lead at halftime.  They would bolster their lead with two more touchdowns in the second half.

Buescher's 97 yards passing were his least all postseason the least since his 84-yard showing in that Week 10 loss to the Indians.

The Roughriders now move into the postseason disappointed to have lost in the Final Four but optimistic to come off such an impressive Regional Finals victory despite losing the conference for a second consecutive year.

Division VII: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Newark Catholic (14) vs. Warren John F. Kennedy (7) at Marlington Stadium (Alliance)

After most central Ohio teams were sent packing on Friday and Saturday, Newark Catholic achieved something no other team could: it punched its ticket to the State Championship.

The Green Wave (14-1) defeated John F. Kennedy (10-3) 14-7 becoming the only central Ohio team to win in the Final Four.

Newark Catholic not only reserved a spot to compete for the Division VII state title on Dec. 4, but they also completed a path to redemption over a year in the making.

During the 2020 season, the Green Wave struggled with three regular-season losses yet still managed to make it to the State Semifinals. It would, however, lose 20-13 to JFK.

As fate would have it, Newark Catholic would meet the exact same team in the 2021 postseason fighting for another chance at the State Championship.

This time, on Saturday, the Green Wave was not going to give up the chance as it won to extend its season one more week.

Newark Catholic moves on to play undefeated Marion Local in the Division VII State Championship on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
